CLOSED SCHOOLS

2013

In 2013, the Chicago Board of Education permanently closed 50 public schools, the largest single round of school closings in recent American history. Nearly 12,000 students were displaced, mostly on the city’s South and West Sides. I visited all of the closed school buildings for a documentary photo project. The photos appeared on WBEZ, were featured in the Washington Post, Chicago Sun-Times, were exhibited in a solo show at the IPaintMyMind Gallery, and used as part of two documentaries from Kartemquin Films.
