WORKING IN AMERICA
2014 - 2017Working in America is a travelling exhibit inspired by Studs Terkel’s 1974 book Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do. The exhibit profiles two-dozen people from across the country talking about their lives and work, how they make a living, and what they feel their contribution is to society. The exhibit was conceived and executed by Jane M. Saks and Project&. The images for the exhibit were taken by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Lynsey Addario. I produced audio interviews with all of the participants. The exhibit itself was designed in collaboration with award-winning architect Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang. The companion NPR radio series “Working Then and Now,” includes never-before-heard field recordings Studs Terkel conducted for his book as well as new interviews, and was produced by Joe Richman and Radio Diaries.
