TEACHING

Since 2014, I have been an Adjunct Lecturer at Northwestern University in the Medill School of Journalism. I teach mainly graduate students about Audio Reporting and Production. But I’ve also taught a class for undergraduates on Serial and the Golden Age of Podcasting, and I’ve co-taught an introductory class called News Reporting & Writing for grad students. Some of my former students have gone on to work at NPR, Reuters, the Financial Times, and Vice, as well as reporters at public radio stations in Miami and in West Virginia, and to start their own podcasts. For the past two years I’ve travelled with students on reporting trips to Puerto Rico. Once, my graduate students at Medill liked my class so much that they petitioned successfully for an advanced version of the class the following quarter.

Below are some examples of my students work that I’m particularly proud of:

Kaleb Autman: Chicago’s Kid Activist by Adrienne Hurst

In a traffic-stopping crowd of activists, the loudest voice was one of the youngest. On April 15, thousands of protestors marched through downtown Chicago, demanding a fifteen-dollar minimum wage. Thirteen-year-old Kaleb Autman led the way. Reporter Adrienne Hurst has the story.

K-Town, USA podcast by Danny Hwang, Lizzy Ju, and Louis Oh

K-Town, USA is a podcast about Korean America: who we are, where we are, and where we’re headed in American life.
