ILLINOIS HUMANITIES COUNCIL
2015
Gun violence is part of everyday life for many Chicagoans. Residents have grown accustomed to it, and so has the media. Turn on the TV and you can hear about people who are shot and who do the shooting. But rarely do you hear about people who grow up around violence and don’t get involved. I teamed up with Englewood resident Kita Toby to talk to successful people who grew up around gun violence to see what we can learn from their stories. This was done in conjunction with the Illinois Humanities Council’s Reporting Back Initiative.
