HEROIN, LLC
In 2013, WBEZ partnered with the Chicago Reader for a series of stories examining how so much heroin gets to Chicago, how it’s distributed, and who gets hurt. As part of the series, I reported on a suburban high school where three students died in a single school year as a result of drug overdoses. Two students from Neuqua Valley High School in suburban Naperville set out to understand why. They asked their classmates about heroin – where they get it and why they use it. The project became a documentary that stunned the well-to-do community.
I also produced and edited an hour-long special for WBEZ hosted by Natalie Moore, featuring the series’ stories as well as conversations with the Chicago Reader’s Mick Dumke and Illinois Consortium on Drug Policy Director Kathie Kane-Willis.
