AMERICAN POVERTY
In Our Own Backyard is an alliance of American photojournalists and storytellers dedicated to making poverty a national priority. The aim is to dispel stereotypes and encourage actions to aid disadvantaged people. I’ve done reporting for In Our Own Backyard from places across the country – from Nevada to West Virginia, from New Jersey to Maine.
Here’s a short profile I reported on Shirley Forrider, a mother of two, who lives in Athens County, Ohio. She’s unemployed but works at a food pantry as part of a state program that enables her to get temporary financial assistance.
